Masatoshi Sugiyama is the president of Miyabi Andon Factory and the eldest of three brothers. After graduating from high school and spending four years learning customer service at a doll store in Osaka, he returned to Shizuoka and, concerned about the aging of traditional crafts in his hometown, decided to take over the family business. He was joined by his younger brother (the managing director) and the youngest brother, both craftsmen. He is also engaged in training young people to pass on the techniques to the next generation. He is a specialist in bamboo sensuji-zaiku, and has been involved in many hotel lighting projects with his flexibility and creativity in responding to various offers.
